Disney’s Animal Kingdom is more than just a theme park; it is a massive, living ecosystem where every corner holds a new discovery. From the moment you pass the Tree of Life, you are surrounded by exotic habitats and incredible wildlife. This summer, we are sharing the best ways to get up close with these amazing creatures.
With over 250 species living in the park, you will find animals everywhere you look. Kilimanjaro Safaris alone features nearly 30 species, including hippos, zebras, and the newest baby giraffe, Ivy. No two rides on the safari are the same, so keep your camera ready for unexpected moments.

Explore the Hidden Trails
If you prefer a slower pace, the walking trails offer some of the best views in the park. On the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, you can spot meerkats, African birds, and a family of gorillas. It is a great way to see the animals without the crowds of the main attractions.

Head over to the Maharajah Jungle Trek to find Sumatran tigers like young Bakso, along with Komodo dragons and flying foxes. Around the Tree of Life, keep a sharp eye on the water to find Bruce, the paroon shark catfish, or the colorful flamingos resting nearby.
Want to know more? Just ask the animal care experts. You will find them stationed along the trails and at Conservation Station. They love sharing stories about animal behavior and the specialized care each creature receives.

Watch Feedings and Training in Action
Seeing the animals during their daily routines is a highlight of any trip. You can watch the care teams in action during training sessions and feedings throughout the morning and afternoon.
- Flamingo feedings: 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. across from Island Mercantile
- Cotton-top tamarin training: 10 a.m. across from Creature Comforts
- Galapagos tortoise training: 12:30 p.m. behind the Tree of Life on the path near Creature Comforts

Look Up for Winged Encounters
Don’t forget to look at the sky. Winged Encounters – The Kingdom Takes Flight is a spectacular moment where macaws soar right over Discovery Island in front of the Tree of Life. These flights happen daily at 8:15 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 12:15 p.m.

Meet New Friends at Jumping Junction
Hop on the Wildlife Express Train to Conservation Station to visit Jumping Junction. This area features animals from Australia, including kangaroos and wallabies. You might even see a few baby joeys peeking out from their mothers’ pouches.

While you are there, the kids can join Bluey and her sister Bingo at Bluey’s Wild World. It is a perfect spot to play games like Keepy Uppy and burn off some energy in the shade.

Become a Wilderness Explorer
For a truly interactive experience, join the Wilderness Explorers. This free program lets guests of all ages complete activities and earn badges while learning about conservation. Pick up your handbook at the bridge between the Oasis and Discovery Island to start your journey through Africa, Asia, and Pandora – The World of Avatar.
Pro Tips for Animal Spotting
Animals have different routines, so their behavior changes throughout the day. Many animals prefer to rest in the shade during the hot afternoon, so look closely into the brush and under trees. Always check the official app for trail hours, as they often close earlier than the rest of the park.
If you are planning a trip this summer, look out for special savings. Families can currently find deals like free dining plans for kids and discounts on stays at Disney Resort hotels to make the adventure even easier.
