  • Disneyland Paris Connects Through Sign Language for a More Inclusive Park Experience

Imagine stepping into Disneyland Paris, where everyone feels truly welcome and understood. On World Sign Language Day, the resort truly walked the talk, rolling out some heartwarming initiatives focused on French Sign Language (LSF). It was all about bringing young people, Cast Members, and Disney VoluntEARS together to share, learn, and connect.

First up, a truly special moment. Twelve high school students from the National Institute for Young Deaf People (INJS), joined by their teachers, came to Disneyland Paris for an inspiring encounter. They met Michael Jérémiasz, a French Paralympic tennis champion who even snagged a gold medal in Beijing 2008!

The day kicked off with an LSF workshop, and here’s the cool part: the students became Michael’s coaches! They guided him through his first steps in learning sign language. What an amazing way for these young people to share their knowledge and truly shine. The conversation continued with Michael sharing his journey and how sport can be a powerful force for inclusion.

As Marie-Françoise Arrighi, Disneyland Paris’s CSR Coordinator, explained, it’s vital to create these moments where young people can share their experiences and take an active role in raising awareness. This meeting with Michael was a perfect example, letting them pass on their knowledge and truly value their own learning journey.

After their inspiring session, the students explored the park, guided by two dedicated Disney VoluntEARS. Talk about a magical way to spend the day!

But the day wasn’t just for the students. Behind the scenes, Disney VoluntEARS and Cast Members also got a fantastic opportunity: four French Sign Language initiation sessions! These workshops gave them a great head start in LSF, which is incredibly useful for their roles in assisting guests. More importantly, it helped them truly grasp the challenges of accessibility and communication with deaf individuals.

As Sylvie Bracquemond, HR Social Policies Manager, highlighted, these actions really show Disneyland Paris’s commitment to inclusion. By giving Cast Members the chance to learn sign language, they empower them to communicate better with deaf guests, creating an even more inclusive experience for everyone.

Cast Members who participated felt these sessions helped them understand how crucial communication is. They gained confidence in interacting with deaf guests, realizing that even small gestures can make a huge difference in their daily interactions. That’s the magic of it!

Beyond all the physical adjustments and facilities for accessibility, true inclusion thrives on awareness, training, and genuine exchange. By giving its Cast Members the tools to better communicate with deaf individuals, Disneyland Paris truly shows its ongoing dedication to making the park a welcoming place for absolutely everyone. It’s all about creating magic for every single guest!
