Get ready, fellow adventurers! D23 is just around the corner, running from August 14th to 16th, and the legendary Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.) is gearing up for an exciting new expedition. They’re heading straight to the Imagineering Pavilion, promising a truly special appearance thanks to their collaboration with Walt Disney Imagineering.
Wait, what is the S.E.A.?

For those who might not know, the Society of Explorers and Adventurers is exactly what it sounds like: a group dedicated to thrilling escapades and uncovering the unknown! Their mission? To reveal truths, right wrongs, and always live to tell the incredible story. You might recognize their classic Latin motto, “Exploratio continua,” which simply means “continued exploration.” Today, they couple that with “wonder, explore, and discover.”
This means the Society constantly seeks their next heart-pounding adventure! Whether it’s launching expeditions into uncharted territories or documenting the journeys of fellow explorers, S.E.A. also protects humanity’s artistic achievements. Its members have scaled towering peaks, navigated the longest rivers, and created countless brilliant inventions that pushed the boundaries of exploration.
Tracing its humble roots back to the 1500s, S.E.A. began with a distinguished group of mariners, scientists, inventors, and artists. Their earliest known headquarters was the mythical Fortress Exploration. There, early members swapped stories of daring feats, unveiled new inventions, and shared their wisdom, sparking innovation for everyone.
Ever since, S.E.A. has remained a powerhouse of innovation and discovery, fiercely dedicated to uncovering the world’s hidden secrets. They meticulously document their vast history – from finding lost artifacts to following in the footsteps of their legendary alumni. They also launch modern expeditions to remote, unexplored places. Simply put: they identify, preserve, and showcase the world’s many unknowns. Because, for them, every mystery is just an invitation to adventure!
Who makes up S.E.A.?
Ever heard names like Mary Oceaneer, Dr. Albert Falls, or Lord Henry Mystic? If so, then you’ve definitely encountered the Society of Explorers and Adventurers.

True to the Society’s spirit, today’s members are far more than just adventurers. They’re academics, artists, athletes, and everything in between. Many proudly blend multiple disciplines! For instance, Imagineering works closely with an enthusiastic archivist, who acts as S.E.A.’s part-time historian, part-time curator, and full-time explorer, managing their colossal artifact collection. Historically, members like Camellia Falco, a keen aviator, even invented her own devices to push our understanding of flight and embark on new sky-high adventures.
You can find traces of S.E.A. members woven throughout history and across the globe. Perhaps you’ve seen Dr. Falls’ intricate map of the world’s rivers or marveled at Lord Mystic’s manor, brimming with historical curiosities. Keep an eye out – you might even spot oars etched with members’ names and their incredible expeditions!
At heart, every Society member shares an insatiable curiosity and an unyielding passion for adventure. And speaking of exploring new frontiers…
What is S.E.A. doing at D23 this year?
Great question! This summer, S.E.A. teams up with Walt Disney Imagineering to reveal more about their fascinating organization. They especially want to highlight the adventurers whose insatiable curiosity drives them to solve the world’s mysteries. While history and even your daily life hold countless secrets, they might – and I stress, might – even discuss some enigmas that have stumped even the Society itself!

Here’s a little secret for you: S.E.A. has a “newly rediscovered” artifact ready for their D23 presentation! An S.E.A. archivist spent three months cataloging their vast collection, unearthing amazing pieces like intricate Greek amphoras from Lord Henry Mystic and sarcophagi “acquired” by Harrison Hightower III. Now, a crate, untouched for at least a century, is headed to D23. But here’s the kicker: neither Imagineering nor S.E.A. has any idea what’s inside! It’s another S.E.A. mystery, as intriguing as the Voynich manuscript or the lost books of Alexandria. The Society can’t wait to share this piece of their history and the thrill of discovery with all of us!
If you’re eager to find out what’s inside that mysterious crate, or simply want to dive deeper into the world of S.E.A., make sure to attend their D23 presentation, “An Inside Look at the Society of Explorers and Adventurers,” on August 14th!
Can’t make it in person? No worries! Walt Disney Imagineering will share every detail on their Instagram account. Make sure you’re following them to catch all the updates. Both S.E.A. and Imagineering are incredibly excited to embark on this new exploration with everyone!
