Spring is officially here at Walt Disney World, and you know what that means? A whole lot of adorable new baby animals! It’s been a busy time behind the scenes at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, with milestones and heartwarming moments happening all over.
Meet the Newest Masai Giraffe Calf!
First up, get ready to melt over a brand-new Masai giraffe calf! Born earlier this month at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, this little girl weighed around 120 pounds and stood almost six feet tall right from the start. Her mom, Willow, stays close, teaching her curious baby the ropes of life on the savanna. It’s truly special to watch them bond.

Even though she’s tiny for a giraffe, her birth is a huge deal for her species. Masai giraffes are classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with only an estimated 30,000 left in the wild. Disney’s animal care teams work closely with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan. This program is crucial, helping to maintain healthy populations and ensuring these incredible animals thrive for future generations.
Bri, an animal keeper at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, shared some behind-the-scenes insights: “She’s already had her first checkup and is doing great, so mom is happily in charge. Right now, she’s rarely far from Willow, following her around the barn, exploring her surroundings, and learning something new every day.”
For now, this little calf enjoys her time backstage with Willow. But don’t worry, you’ll get to see her! She’ll stretch her long legs on Kilimanjaro Safaris this summer, joining the rest of the herd, including her half-brother, Tucker, a fan favorite born in 2025.
More New Arrivals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Our new giraffe isn’t the only one stealing hearts this spring. Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, we have even more baby animals making their grand entrance! Say hello to Parker, a male nyala calf, who’s already settling into his new home.
Nyala calves are born with beautiful white stripes and spots, perfect for blending into tall grass. As Parker grows, his coat will darken, and he’ll develop those distinctive spiral horns that make male nyalas so striking. Fun fact: male and female nyalas look so different, they’re one of the savanna’s most unique antelope species!
Mel, an animal keeper at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, explained how the team prepares these newcomers: “We’ve been welcoming new baby animals to the lodge for over 25 years, so our team knows exactly how to prepare them for life on the savanna. We do gradual introductions to sounds and spaces, and we watch how they respond to their moms and new environments. Even with all that experience, no two arrivals are ever the same.”

And you might recognize these next little ones! Meet Red River Hog piglets Mason, Cooper, Phillip (born to mom Clementine), and Demi (born shortly after to mom Persimmon). They’re already exploring their savanna habitat at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. These piglets are full of personality, sticking close to their moms as they discover their new home.

Last but certainly not least, let’s talk about Mabel! She’s the first Ankole calf born at Walt Disney World in over 20 years, and she’s absolutely thriving thanks to Disney’s dedicated animal care team. Right now, she’s small, but one day Mabel will sport those incredible, sweeping horns that make Ankole cattle so unforgettable.
Bringing Conservation to Life for Guests
These young animals are currently spending time backstage, bonding with their mothers, getting stronger, and receiving constant care. But it won’t be long before they make their public debut on the savannas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge this summer. Imagine the joy of spotting one of these babies exploring its habitat! It truly creates unforgettable moments and sparks a deeper appreciation for wildlife.
These exciting births highlight Disney’s strong commitment to conservation globally. For years, the Disney Conservation Fund has supported community programs worldwide, helping to protect wildlife, inspire action, and promote environmental resilience. It’s amazing to see how much goes into protecting these incredible creatures.
Thanks to the passion and expertise of every Cast Member involved, these new arrivals help bring the vital stories of conservation to life for all guests. We simply can’t wait for you to meet them!
