Can you believe it? Fifty-five years ago, on October 1, 1971, Magic Kingdom Park opened its gates for the very first time. Guests stepped into a world they’d only dreamed of, and honestly, who could have imagined how huge Walt Disney World would become? To celebrate this incredible milestone, we’re taking a moment to honor the true heart of the magic: the Cast Members who have been there since day one. And guess what? We even have a sneak peek at some new 55th-anniversary merchandise, modeled by these amazing legends!
First up, meet Frank! He works as an Entertainment Readiness Manager for Disney Live Entertainment, making sure all the shows and parades run smoothly. Look at him rocking that new 55th-anniversary hoodie – blue definitely suits him! Frank has seen so much, taken on countless roles, and still calls Walt Disney World his home. He puts it perfectly: “Walt Disney World is a place where someone can find a first job, fall in love with the company, and work there for most of their life. You can’t find that just anywhere, so it means a lot to a lot of people.” It’s inspiring to hear that kind of dedication!
Frank also shows off the vibrant 55th-anniversary backpack. He recalls what it was like to be among the very first Cast Members, welcoming guests on that historic opening day. Imagine being one of the first faces to greet visitors to “The Most Magical Place On Earth!” He shared, “It is very hard to believe I’ve been here since opening day – it’s true that time does fly. I’ve held a lot of different roles here at Disney, and it’s been wonderful.” What an incredible journey.
As the 55th anniversary approaches, Frank is clearly ready to keep the magic going. Here he is, looking sharp with his 55th-anniversary tumbler, a blue tee, and a matching hat. He’s excited to continue creating amazing experiences with his team. His philosophy for celebrating? “To celebrate, I am going to go to work every day and have a good time. I have an amazing team and couldn’t ask for anything better!” We couldn’t agree more!
Now, let’s meet Earliene! She brings so much joy as a merchandise hostess at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. You can tell just by looking at her that she absolutely loves her job! Earliene has also been with Walt Disney World since opening day, and her enthusiasm is just as bright now as it was then. That red 55th-anniversary tee she’s modeling perfectly matches her vibrant personality. She recalls opening day: “Ah, opening day, I was so thrilled! At the time, I had no idea that I would remain at Disney this long, but when you come on board it’s like falling in love with a whole different world… it’s just something you never want to leave or give up. I just love it. I love my Disney World.” Her passion is truly infectious!
Earliene also showed off her gorgeous blue 55th-anniversary ears, sharing some of her cherished memories. “Mickey and I have had a great journey, and it’s hard to pick a favorite moment… I just really enjoy being here, having fun with guests and seeing kids having the time of their lives. It’s a joy that makes you feel so good, doing what we do.” What a lovely way to look at it! As for celebrating the 55th? Earliene plans to keep doing what she does best: “To celebrate 55 years, I’m going to continue doing what I do best, making sure my guests are completely satisfied and enjoying their vacation with us!” That’s the spirit!

It was the beginning of an incredible, unexpected journey – one filled with immense pride, purpose, and a deep love for Walt Disney World that now spans over five decades. We are so lucky to celebrate 55 years of Walt Disney World, and it’s truly special to hear from the people who have been here since the very first day. It’s thanks to dedicated Cast Members like Earliene, Frank, and countless others that Walt Disney World has become the amazing place we all know and love today.
