  • Unveiling the Magic: The Artist Behind Pixar Place Hotel’s Monsters, Inc. Halloween Transformation

Get ready for some monstrously good fun at Pixar Place Hotel! This fall, the hotel has transformed, bringing your favorite characters from Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. to life with a spooky, playful Halloween makeover. Mike, Sulley, and the gang are all dressed in their Halloween finest, inviting guests to celebrate the season with incredible themed artwork and hidden surprises throughout the hotel.

A Monster-Sized Idea Comes to Life

You see the incredible transformation, but did you ever wonder what goes into making it happen? Creating this monster-sized vision took months of hard work and collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Pixar, and the Disneyland Resort Enhancement team.

Behind this unique Monsters, Inc.-themed fall decor is Brett Snodgrass, a talented digital artist from the Resort Enhancement team. Brett has brought countless stories to life across the resort for over eight years. “I’ve been a designer for a really long time,” Brett shares, “and seeing the finished piece is always incredibly exciting.”

The inspiration for this year’s decor perfectly blends Halloween fun with the familiar monster world we all adore. When a teammate suggested imagining Halloween through the eyes of Mike, Sulley, and Boo, Brett’s creativity sparked. He immediately started brainstorming how to bring that vision to life for hotel guests.

“I thought about Monsters, Inc., Halloween, trick-or-treat, and doors,” Brett explains. “Our monster characters are having a blast in the artwork, wearing costumes and sharing candy between our world and theirs.”

The result is a collection of playful artwork, full of new details for guests to discover as they explore the hotel. Keep an eye out for those fun surprises!

A Team Effort: Bringing Monsters to Life

Designing new art for beloved Pixar characters is a huge responsibility for Brett. The challenge? The designs needed to feel authentic to the Monsters, Inc. world we all know and love, while also adding a special Halloween twist. Brett deeply researched the brilliant concept artists who shaped the Monsters films. “They’re just beautiful movies,” he says, “so I really delved into what other artists have created. You’ll notice shapes and compositions that echo some of that early concept artwork.”

Brett collaborated closely with Pixar to ensure every character kept its true design and personality. Once the artwork received final approval, a team of talented printers, graphic technicians, and installers stepped in. Together, they transformed these creative concepts into the immersive, monstrously fun environment you now see at Pixar Place Hotel.

    The Big Reveal

Brett has a special tradition: for every new art piece he creates for the resort, he walks the finished installation, taking it all in. This Halloween decor for Pixar Place Hotel was no different.

“It’s an incredible feeling,” Brett shares, “knowing that after two years of development, people finally get to experience this. It feels truly special.”

But for Brett, it’s more than just seeing his art. The real reward comes from knowing that families, friends, and fellow Disney fans will interact with the decor, hunt for their favorite characters, uncover hidden details, and create lasting memories during the Halloween season.
