  • Arendelle Castle Takes Shape: A Look Inside Its Creation for Disney Adventure World

Get ready, Arendelle Castle is rising at Disney Adventure World! This stunning new landmark for the World of Frozen comes to life thanks to a special collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and UK Loco Ltd. This British company, a long-time partner of Disneyland Paris, brought its expertise to translate the magic of Frozen into an incredibly immersive and detailed environment.

The Imagineers didn’t just build a castle; they crafted a piece of art rooted in a unique architectural style. Think fortified castles for the base, mixed with the elegant, layered rooflines you see on historic Norwegian stave churches, like the 12th-century Borgund. Bringing these real-world inspirations into a fantasy setting demanded incredible precision. Every roof, every silhouette, and every textured surface needed to look perfect from any angle, distance, and in any light. That’s the Disney difference!

How do you build such a complex structure? It’s a fantastic blend of engineering and pure craftsmanship. Right from the start, UK Loco Ltd used detailed 3D modeling for the castle’s walls and turrets. This let the Imagineering team virtually explore every nook and cranny, tweaking creative and structural elements long before construction even began. Talk about planning ahead!

Once the virtual plans were perfect, the real work began. They first built the internal steel structure, all certified for safety and durability. After the foundations were laid, attention turned to the façade. Imagineers don’t rush anything: they even created a painted scale model of a castle section. This “mini-castle” allowed the Walt Disney Imagineering Paris teams to scrutinize materials, finishes, and ensure everything matched their creative vision before giving the green light for the full-scale build.

Bringing Arendelle Castle to life called on a host of specialized talents. Experts fabricated delicate aluminum spires and roof elements. Carpenters meticulously crafted templates for the intricate wall textures. Nearly 2000 decorative shingle panels now adorn the roof and façade. Artists used the traditional Scandinavian rosemaling technique for the scenic painting, adding authentic flair. And of course, a sophisticated lighting design ensures the castle shines day and night.

This castle isn’t just a building; it’s a visual anchor, drawing your eye right into the heart of the land. They even used “forced perspective” – a classic Disney trick – to make it feel even grander and taller, pulling you deeper into the story. And yes, this magnificent structure will host the Royal Meeting with Anna and Elsa!

This isn’t the first time Disneyland Paris and UK Loco Ltd have teamed up. They have a fantastic, long-running partnership! Together, they’ve worked on some truly iconic experiences across the resort, including The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Toy Story Playland, Crush’s Coaster, and Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy. More recently, they even built the Quinjet for Avengers Campus. Their fingerprints are all over the magic!

“It’s a huge source of pride for everyone at UK Loco to be such a trusted partner for Disneyland Paris,” shared Stephen Paget, Managing Director of UK Loco Ltd. “Working on Disney Adventure World feels extra special, especially as we celebrate two decades of collaboration with Walt Disney Imagineering Paris!”
