  • Unveiling the Princess Cavalcade: Claire Salmon Shares Secrets of Disney Adventure World’s New Show

Ever wondered what it takes to bring a massive Disney show to life? Meet Claire Salmon, the incredible Producer behind Disney’s Princess Cavalcade. She’s not waving a magic wand like the Blue Fairy, but she’s orchestrating a team of over 600 people to make this spectacular new show a reality for Disney Adventure World this summer.

So, what exactly does a Producer do for a show like Disney’s Princess Cavalcade?

Claire explains that her role is to oversee everything about this new production. “It’s a huge undertaking,” she says, “from building the floats and casting performers to recording the music and handling every operational detail within the park. My job is to make sure all these teams work together seamlessly. We need to deliver a show that’s not just beautiful, but also practical to run every day, and most importantly, unforgettable for our guests.”

She emphasizes the careful timing involved: “We have to ensure the floats arrive exactly when rehearsals start, that all our performers are cast, trained, and ready. It’s truly like being a conductor, making sure every section of the orchestra plays its part perfectly!”

This isn’t just *any* new show; it’s the very first cavalcade ever for Disney Adventure World!

“Absolutely!” Claire confirms. “Imagine creating a massive live show for a park that didn’t even exist a year ago. It was a huge challenge! We had to picture everything, projecting ourselves into this new space and figuring out how the show would fit perfectly, all before the park was even finished.”

And it’s your first cavalcade too!

Claire shares that her background is mostly in theatrical productions, from The Enchanted Forest (2016) to Alice and the Queen of Hearts: Return to Wonderland (2024), and even Disney Junior Dream Factory (2021). “This cavalcade format is unique,” she explains. “It’s a fantastic blend of a parade and a stage show, especially during the ‘show stop’ moments where performers interact directly with the audience.”

The route itself is pretty clever. “It’s a round trip,” Claire details. “It starts at the entrance of the upcoming immersive Lion King-themed land, goes all the way to The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge, and then circles back to its starting point for our interactive sequence. This means guests get to see the stunning floats twice – once on the way out, and again on the way back!”

How did your teams adapt to this brand-new location?

“It was quite an experience!” Claire recounts. “In mid-June, we brought the first floats into the park. We spent time measuring speeds, timing everything, making sure our technical plans matched the choreographers’ vision. We made adjustments, of course, but the main goal was to ensure the cavalcade felt like it belonged there, like it had always been a part of Disney Adventure World.”

These floats look stunning! Can you tell us more about their design?

Claire shares that Thomas Gallou, the scenographer who also created the boats for the Celebration in Arendelle show, designed these incredible floats. “Designing a float is an adventure in itself,” she explains. “It’s totally different from an indoor show. You have to cram all the scenic elements – sound, lighting, decoration – into a tiny space.”

Safety is paramount too, especially for the driver. “They need optimal conditions to maneuver, but also the ability to react instantly to anything unexpected,” Claire adds. “Then there’s the maintenance aspect; every technical part has to be easily accessible for daily care. And through all this, everything has to be hidden, so guests only see the magic!”

What truly matters to guests, of course, is the rich theming and incredible details. “Honestly, I think we’ve nailed it,” Claire beams. “Beyond all the technical challenges, these floats are just magnificent. When they first came out, I walked around them and kept taking pictures from every angle. They’re so beautiful! I truly believe guests will keep discovering new hidden details, little characters, or accessories so realistic you almost want to reach out and touch them.”

How do you manage to bring all these complex elements together?

“It’s a really complex process,” Claire admits. “On one side, you have the industrial, engineering world of the rolling chassis. On the other, there’s the show business side, creating all the audio, lighting, and decoration. The biggest challenge is getting these two completely different universes to work as one.”

But that’s where the magic happens. “It’s fascinating to see engineers, who usually work in highly codified fields like aerospace or automotive, step outside their comfort zone to collaborate with us in live entertainment,” she explains. “They often tell us how much they enjoy it – it’s a refreshing change for them, and they bring us invaluable expertise. Honestly, very few companies can handle this kind of challenge, especially since we make it a point to work with local providers, mostly here in France.”

What was the Disney Animation Studios’ involvement in the creative process?

“Whenever we’re dealing with these beloved characters, we always present everything – from story concepts to visuals – to the Disney Animation Studios,” Claire clarifies. “Our floats aren’t literal recreations of the movies; they’re more of an ‘extrapolation,’ much like The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge draws inspiration from the Disney Princesses universe. For our cavalcade, the core theme is adventure, and we had some really rich discussions with the Studios about that.”

How will guests be fully immersed in this adventure?

“The cavalcade route itself is a bit neutral thematically,” Claire explains. “So, we knew we needed a super strong theme for the floats and performers, especially through their amazing costumes. Music is another huge factor for immersion.”

They’ve paid close attention to sound. “The floats have their own audio systems, but we also have extra parade poles boosting the sound along the route. From day one, we checked that the sound was perfectly balanced everywhere, so every guest gets an optimal experience, no matter where they’re standing.” And get ready for this: “It’s going to be extra special when the cavalcade stops, and the performers invite kids to dance with them. That’s when the immersion will truly be complete!”

And what about the music for this Cavalcade?

“We’ve created two exclusive songs for the cavalcade,” Claire reveals. “Guests will definitely catch hints of each Princess within the melodies. These aren’t just arrangements of existing tunes; they’re brand new compositions!” There’s one song for when the floats are moving and another specifically for the “show stop” moment.

“We went for a very pop, danceable, and singable style to really capture the adventurous energy,” she adds. “And here’s a fun fact: one of these songs is almost entirely in French! It’s a special nod to our French-speaking audience. But honestly, no matter what language you speak, the chorus is super catchy, and everyone will be singing along in no time!”

How was the recording process for these unique songs?

“It’s pretty amazing,” Claire enthuses. “For most of our pop productions, we record in Nashville, Tennessee. The musicians there have this incredible ‘vibe’ and bring a unique energy you just don’t find anywhere else. I’m always blown away by them.”

She describes the process: “They get the sheet music the same day, and immediately, the magic just happens. They can hear the tiniest details and make real-time adjustments, making the sound even more perfect than we imagined. I honestly don’t know how they do it; music is a complete mystery to me sometimes. Yet, nothing we create would truly work without it.”

Finally, what does this Cavalcade mean to you personally?

Claire smiles. “First, it perfectly embodies the spirit of adventure. That’s exactly how it feels when you dive into a new project, especially one in a brand-new location. You know the destination, what you’re striving for, but the path to get there is part of the adventure itself, every single step.”

“Secondly, this cavalcade celebrates Disney Princesses, and by extension, women,” she continues. “I really connect with that. Look at Moana, who bravely sails into new adventures. And Rapunzel, it feels like a reunion – we first met during the production of The Enchanted Forest! As for Raya and Tiana, I’m just captivated by their personalities and their incredible worlds.”

She concludes with a personal touch: “Just like them, when a challenge comes my way, I don’t hesitate. I go for it!”
