  • Remembering Don Iwerks: The Hidden Hand Behind Disney’s Magic

We recently lost a true visionary, a quiet force who shaped so much of the magic we adore in Disney Parks. Don Iwerks, a name that might not be on everyone’s lips, was a genuine Disney Legend, carrying on an incredible legacy from his father, Ub Iwerks – yes, the co-creator of Mickey Mouse himself!

Don dedicated his life to pushing the boundaries of what was possible, especially with film and projection technology for our beloved attractions. Have you ever been amazed by a seamless projection, a truly immersive effect that makes you gasp? Chances are, Don and his teams played a colossal role in bringing that wonder to life.

He wasn’t just building rides; he was innovating entirely new ways for us to experience stories, blending art and technology like no one else. His brilliant contributions behind the scenes helped define the very essence of a Disney park experience, evolving the magic his father began. We owe him a tremendous debt for the innovation and pure wonder he brought to generations of park guests, helping us all believe a little bit more.
