Adventure is out there! As October 2026 comes to a close, a major milestone unfolds on the construction site of Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings. This upcoming flying chairs carousel, inspired by the Disney-Pixar film Up, will complete the Adventure Way experience in 2027: the main structure of the attraction is finally rising into the sky!

Months of hard work by the Walt Disney Imagineering Paris teams culminate with the arrival of a vital piece of the puzzle: the central column of Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings now stands tall above Adventure Way. As the absolute centerpiece of the attraction, this massive structure towers at 12 meters high and weighs a staggering 22 tons.
“This type of operation is always delicate given the sheer size of the elements we need to install, especially since this specific project features intricate, highly detailed decorations that require careful handling,” shares Timothée Pons, Ride Project Engineer at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris.

The first thematic details are going up right around the mast. Look closely and you will spot hand-painted poetic frescoes of a blue sky dotted with clouds, featuring iconic characters Russell and Doug soaring away with colorful balloons. Hundreds of bright balloons will also hang beneath the canopy to hold the passenger seats. Meanwhile, the exterior features 16 pediments with a unique graphic design of stylized clouds, a starry night sky, and golden accents. To top it all off, the roof features a golden finial shaped like Carl’s house lifted by a cluster of balloons—a direct nod to the Pascal silhouette resting on the roof of Rapunzel Tangled Spin just across the way.

This major breakthrough is just another step forward in a busy construction schedule. Plenty of details still need finishing, from decorative elements waiting to go into the queue line to rigorous testing by the Imagineers long before opening day. You will need to wait just a bit longer before taking flight on this theme park classic when it opens in 2027, bringing stunning panoramic views over Disney Adventure World.
