  • Earth Month Takes Center Stage as Shanghai Disney Resort Turns 10!

Get ready for a month packed with magic and environmental action! Shanghai Disney Resort isn’t just celebrating its 10th anniversary; it’s also kicking off its annual Disney Earth Month on April 1st, showing everyone that magic and nature truly go hand in hand. Tying into its anniversary theme, « With You, It’s Magic+ », this celebration invites guests, Cast Members, and nature lovers alike to dive into activities that spark conservation awareness and inspire sustainable actions, long after April ends.

And here’s something really special for this Earth Month: Shanghai Disney Resort, alongside Disney Conservation, unveils a unique 10-year bird monitoring report for Wishing Star Park. This isn’t just any park; it’s that beautiful wetland right next to Shanghai Disneyland, and this report showcases its incredible development, preservation, and thriving diverse ecological environment.

Murray King, Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications at Shanghai Disney Resort, shared how the resort uses every April to reinforce its commitment to protecting our planet. They inspire future environmentalists with an exciting array of themed events for guests, Cast Members, and the community. This 10th anniversary year is a chance to reflect on their past successes, celebrate valuable partnerships, and look for even more ways to protect the environment and promote wildlife conservation. It’s truly inspiring!

Sustainability and conservation aren’t just buzzwords for Shanghai Disney Resort; they’re built right into its DNA, right from the design and construction phases. Wishing Star Park is a prime example. This massive 500,000-square-meter urban wetland sits right within the resort! What’s even cooler? They started monthly bird surveys back in July 2015, while construction was still ongoing, to monitor the wildlife making this new habitat their home.

Just in time for Earth Month and the resort’s 10th anniversary, Shanghai Disney Resort and Disney Conservation will release a fascinating document: Creating an Urban Wetland Ecosystem: A Case Study of Shanghai Disney Resort Wishing Star Park. Look for it in mid-April, right before Earth Day! This report, built on ten years of monthly bird surveys and deep insights from Wishing Star Park’s urban biodiversity development, shows exactly how an urban wetland can be designed and managed to benefit both wildlife AND people. It’s a real blueprint for future projects!

Wishing Star Park wasn’t just designed for recreation; it’s a living, breathing urban ecosystem supporting diverse plants and animals. It’s now a perfect home for wild birds and a crucial stop for migrating species. For over 11 years, the passion of Cast Members and experts from the Shanghai Wild Bird Society has driven the bird monitoring program, making a real difference for nature and wildlife. To date, they’ve recorded over 61,500 birds from 133 different species! This includes five species of international conservation concern and 14 of China’s nationally protected animals. Talk about a birdwatcher’s paradise right in Shanghai!

But the celebration doesn’t stop there! The resort’s signature Nature Conservation Forum returns on Earth Day, April 22nd, with an exciting new theme: “Step into Wonder”. Teaming up with National Geographic, the forum features inspiring local and international keynote speakers, plus a fun, engaging panel. They’ll dive into captivating stories of marine biology and wildlife conservation, aiming to boost environmental awareness and solidarity among everyone who attends.

You can also visit the Celebrate Earth Month Fair at Disneytown from April 17th to April 22nd. It brings together various organizations, corporate partners, National Geographic, and its Explorers. And guess who’s making an appearance? Shanghai Disneyland’s JAMMitors band! They’ll entertain guests with engaging live performances, sharing fun tips on waste sorting and recycling. Who knew learning could be so much fun?

Thanks to a generous one-million-yuan donation from Shanghai Disney Resort to the China Environmental Protection Foundation, the “My Hometown Animals and Me” program launched a fantastic series of three educational books. These books tell stories of wild animals from Sichuan, Shanghai, and Yunnan. They’ll reach elementary and middle schools in those regions, planting seeds of biodiversity awareness in young minds. You can even check out these books at the Celebrate Earth Month Fair! Plus, the Fair will host booths from the top 10 student teams of the « Youth Environmental Inspiration Program » (also supported by the resort). They’ll showcase their awesome, creative projects tackling environmental issues. Future environmentalists in the making!

Disney consistently turns big environmental ideas into real-world action through resource conservation, protecting wildlife and their habitats, and sharing inspiring stories that motivate us all. As Shanghai Disney Resort hits its 10th Anniversary milestone, they’re inviting everyone to celebrate Earth Month. It’s a chance to honor the planet that inspires so much of Disney’s magic and to take meaningful steps towards a brighter, more sustainable future together. Let’s make a difference!

Even before the grand opening of Shanghai Disney Resort, the resort made sure its actions supported a healthier planet for people and wildlife. And over the past decade, with the dedication and support of Cast Members, they continue to prove it every single day.
