Ready to dive into the adventure? I did just that! Come along as I recount my latest exploration of the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail at Disney California Adventure.
My Hopping Adventure Begins!
As soon as I stepped in, a super friendly Cast Member handed me a pencil, explained the rules, and offered a choice of four awesome maps: King George, Insect Queen, Ellen Bear, or Tom Lizard. Naturally, I picked the coolest guy around, Tom Lizard! Pencil sharpened, brand-new keepsake map in hand, I was ready.
It was about 4 p.m., the perfect time. The sun dappled through the tree canopy, creating a lovely mix of shade and light. Map in hand, I spotted my first familiar face: King George, voiced by Bobby Moynihan in the movie!
Right at the start of the trail, I found several challenges. This meant I could quickly tick off a few tasks and then have more time to truly soak in the serene atmosphere.
- **Challenge #1:** First up? The Weather Station! I had to find the temperature.
- **Challenge #2:** Then, I tackled the ‘Turn the Dial’ challenge, adjusting a dial to bring down harmful frequencies for the animals. Easy peasy!
- **Challenge #3:** Finally, I went exploring to spot the awesome Reptile Queens.
The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is such a fantastic place for families to unwind and have fun. As I passed the iconic Millennium Tree and moved onto my third challenge, I saw so many happy faces, and kids with truly determined expressions, all busy exploring. All ages were there! Grandparents enjoying a special trip with grandkids, even a whole school group with counselors on a fun class outing. It’s clear this trail brings joy to everyone.

Tom Lizard’s Secret Mission!
As a huge Pixar fan and someone who breathes Disney content, I make sure to follow all the latest trends. And let me tell you, Tom Lizard is everywhere! From cool t-shirts on DisneyStore.com to a new bundle in the Fortnite Shop, and even a star on the Disney Parks Instagram. So, my fourth challenge felt particularly fitting: ‘Don’t Be a Stranger’ – find another lizard on the trail and give a friendly wave!
Halfway through my Lizard quest, after spotting the Reptile Queens, I started really wondering: where was our newest lizard friend hiding? Then, as I rounded a corner near the Mt. Whitney Lookout, there it was! Tom Lizard’s own dedicated sign, right by the Cliff Hang Traverse Rock, on my way to the ‘Decoder’ mission. This little spot was a huge hit, not just for me! I heard a little girl nearby excitedly shouting ‘Lizard! Lizard! Lizard!’ to her family. Priceless!
After zipping past the Cliff Hang Traverse and heading towards the Mt. Shasta Lookout, my next mission was a big one: find a decoder to unlock Tom Lizard’s secret message! A helpful Cast Member pointed me the right way, and after crossing a bridge, I found two decoder keys sitting right next to a radio on a table.
This spot was bustling with young families. Little ones were absolutely laser-focused, either waiting for their turn on the Hoot-N-Holler Logs or diligently using the decoder keys for one of their map’s crucial challenges. It brought such a fun, lively energy to an otherwise peaceful corner of California Adventure. It’s a beautiful reminder that these quieter, simpler moments often forge the most lasting memories at Disney. Sometimes, those brief pauses in the parks stick with us long after the day ends.

Mabel’s Grand Finale!
Tom Lizard’s challenges were done! Time for my final quest: the beaver dam, to find Mabel.
From Mt. Shasta Lookout, past the Mt. Lassen Lookout Ranger Headquarters, and along the Quail Trail, I made my way to the Ahwahnee Camp Circle. There, perfectly posed atop the beaver dam, stood Mabel! She’s one of the main characters, voiced by Piper Curda. Cast Members nearby were super encouraging about photos, making it the perfect finishing touch to this Hoppers adventure.
From there, I headed back to the trail entrance. Another friendly Cast Member greeted me. I returned my pencil, showed off Tom Lizard’s decoded secret message, and guess what? I got two awesome stickers: one of Tom and one of Mabel, proudly proclaiming ‘Challenge Complete!’ What a perfect souvenir!

This Seek & Find is a Must-Do!
Even as an adult, I adore the shade and the attractions in Grizzly Peak. But honestly, my favorite thing about this area? It brings back so many childhood memories of visiting California Adventure with my family. I vividly remember those midday breaks at the Spirit Cave and the Cliff Hangar Traverse Rock Climb, a welcome pause when my parents needed a breather from all the rides. Pure nostalgia!
It’s perfectly hidden from the park’s busiest spots, letting little ones stretch their legs and explore. And having just seen Hoppers in theaters – I truly loved its excitement and humor – this activity felt like the perfect way to celebrate the movie’s spirit in the park. A brilliant tie-in!
Planning a spring trip to California Adventure soon? Make sure you swing by the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail! It’s a relaxed, fun stroll through the Great Outdoors… now with an extra dose of Hoppers magic. You won’t regret it!
